Leading polymer component manufacturer Icon Polymer Ltd has won a major contract to mould the rubber on to the Warrior fighting vehicle wheels for the next three years.

The rubber moulding of the wheels is a safety and mission-critical component as failure leads the vehicle to lose its tracks and, therefore, become completely immobilised. Icon has developed its Endurance compound specifically to withstand the increased weight of modern fighting vehicles without compromising service life.

The British Army is upgrading its Warriors to extend their service life beyond 2020 and Retford-based Icon Polymer has won a three-year contract to supply the rubber moulding for 14,000 wheels for the fleet.
